A BRIEF SPEECH BY DR BENJAMIN OLUWATOSIN ADESOJI OLOWOJEBUTU, FOUNDER/EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR OF BENJAMIN OLOWOJEBUTU FOUNDATION AT THE 100 IN 100 DAYS FREE SURGERIES IN CELEBRATION OF HIS EXCELLENCY, BABAJIDE OLUSOLA SANWOOLU ONE HUNDRED DAYS IN OFFICE AS THE GOVERNOR OF LAGOS STATE AT THE GENERAL HOSPITAL, IJEDE ON TUESDAY, 17 SEPTEMBER 2019
This is to formally welcome Her Excellency, Dr Mrs Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, the First Lady of Lagos State, who is also our mother, mentor and passionate senior colleague, The Commissoner of Health Professor Akin Abayomi, All Permanent Secretaries Seated, All Directors of the Ministry of Health, The Medical Director of General Hospital Ijede Dr Mrs Odubiyi, Our Royal Fathers present and the gentleman of the press.
This day brings great joy to our hearts and we are super excited for the opportunities birthed through our collaboration with Lagos State Government and it’s Ministry of Health. The Benjamin Olowojebutu Foundation is an organization envisioned with a clear mandate to change the healthcare space using love and compassion as focal points. Our focus is on the down trodden and indigent folks in our communities. In the last 9 months we have been to 11 states in Nigeria preforming 1703 life changing surgeries using our personal resources and skills to bring smile to these people.
It’s worthy to note that this is the very first time we are collaborating with any State Government in Nigeria. We are very happy that it is Lagos because any where Lagos goes others follows. We are also very passionate about the maxim of His Excellency, Babajide Olusola Sanwoolu, the Governor of Lagos State which is ‘Igbega Ilu Eko ti di Ajumose’ which is implies that the greatness of Lagos State is our collectively responsibility.
It’s a fact that what becomes of our humanity is our collective responsibility. This is the driving force behind our pro-poor health driven project and our own little way to show that LOVE can make humanity prosperous.
The 100 in 100 health intervention was initiated to celebrate the first 100 days in Office of our Visionary and highly Impactful Leader His Excellency Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu. A man determined to change the landscape of Healthcare in Lagos. It is very applauding to know that our intervention falls under Health and Environment which is the second in the T.H.E.M.E agenda.
We are happier being progressives adding positive values to the healthcare demography especially the unreached downtrodden and underserved. In this intervention the demography has been amazing and we have had folks from every part of the state coming from Badagry to Epe to Igando, Somolu Lekki Ajah, Surulere Yaba Ajegunle, Amuwo Odofin and so on.
The impact has been massive. In the last few days
Total Patients Screened 1405
- Fibriods 205
- Hernia 97
- Lipoma 36
- Breast Lumps 24
- Dental Check up 358
- Scaling and Polishing 198
- Tooth Extractions 63
- Cervical Screening 100
Because of the crowd we saw at the screening exercise we realized doing 100 surgeries might not bring the required impact so we decided to add another 50 surgeries. As at yesterday which is Day 1 of the Surgeries. We have performed 51 life transforming surgeries 5 Fibriods 33 Lipomas and 13 Breast Lumps. To God alone be all the glory.
We are grateful to the State government ably led by His Excellency Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu for this intervention and we will continually be open to more of this kind of collaborations focused on the indigent folks in our midst.
Special thanks to the highly Cerebral Honourable Commissoner of Health Professor Akin Abayomi and the entire Lagos state ministry of health staff for making this process very seamless.
God bless you massively.
